Grana Padano is a hard, cooked, slow-ripening Italian PDO cheese belonging to the generic family of grana. It is produced in thirty-two provinces of Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, Piedmont and limited to the autonomous province of Trento, where it takes the name of Trentingrana, and of Veneto; all stages of the production chain (breeding and milking of cows, collection and transformation of milk into cheese, maturing, possible grating) must necessarily take place in the area of origin. With 4 942 054 wheels produced it is the best-selling PDO cheese in the world, and with 1 938 328 wheels exported, corresponding to about 130000 t, it is the most appreciated Italian cheese abroad
